Why do so many people find detransitioners’ stories so compelling that they are disproportionately highlighted over those of happy and healthy trans kids?
Detransition narratives are captivating because cis people can more easily relate to the experience of being not transgender than they can to the experience of being transgender.
To the limited extent they are relevant to health care, detransition narratives should compel us to improve access to affirming transgender care for kids, not restrict it, but they are told with an anti-trans bias.
Hi. Born in 1954, I'm a transfeminine intersex amab and survivor of both IGM and a sort of CT, but Jewish, not fundy. I'm networked with what I call the "full spectrum" global advocates and local organizer crowd, acting as an info hub and comments section truth bomber. Please share this to my groups, rainbow family transsisters , for helping trans people get connected to local community, health care and social services, The Transgender Caucus and Science of Sex and Gender Library, which are just what they sound like.
Misdiagnosis is a plague on the Intersex community that begins at birth. I was operated on at about 15 month, s leaving me with an array of physical and behavioral health issues, being forced into an unnatural gender role. Walt Heyer is the poster child for detransition and a powerful argument in favor of gatekeeping, because he did not have gender dysphoria, but associative disorder.
There are numerous botch jobs attributable to prominent surgeons I won't name, but I will name Toby Melzer as the top surgeon to go to for repair. There are also reports of doctors that are being much too encouraging to people, writing HRT prescriptions and pushing them toward surgery , particularly mastectomies and hysterectomies in months, rather than years.
To answer your first question, it is the genocidal intent of the Vatican, spread by faux Christian think tanks through organizations like the Heritage Foundation, Family Research Center and Alliance Defending Freedom.
WPATH SOC 7 and WHO IDC 11 and a number of larger research institutions have protocols for screening candidates for major GAPs that are yielding unusually high satisfaction rates in long term clinical studies; in the high 90's for SRS and near 100% for HRT, with about a 2% detransition rate, the majority of those detransitioning due to social pressures, not misdiagnosis. The satisfaction rates for far less invasive cosmetic surgeries average in the low 80's. The affirmative approach to pediatric gender care has been yielding amazing results and we are literally witnessing the first generation of happy trans kids and reasonably well adjusted young adults in the history of western civilization. Trans couples are making babies. We're here, we're queer and we're family. We're not going back. The Texas rainbow warriors defeated 13 bills last week. The ones that do pass are not going to withstand a constitutional challenge.
